MPM Municipal Continuity Services · MPM Vault Edge

Local resilience. Cloud-backed confidence.

MPM Vault Edge is the on-site backup appliance for MPM Vault. It keeps a fast local copy of your servers at your site and sends encrypted copies to our Atlanta Vault and our Secondary Vault in Tampa. MPM sizes it, installs it and runs it as part of your Vault service.

How it fits together

Vault Edge is part of your Vault service, not a box you manage on your own. MPM sizes it, installs it, monitors it and keeps it updated.

  1. 01

    Vault Edge, at your site

Holds the local copy. Everyday restores of a file, a folder or a whole server come from here, at local network speed.

  2. 02

    MPM Vault, Atlanta and Tampa

Every backup is encrypted with your key on its way out and kept in our Atlanta Vault and our Secondary Vault in Tampa.

  3. 03

MPM Recovery Pod, with Vault DR

If your building is lost, your servers run as virtual machines in Atlanta while your site is rebuilt.

Vault Edge is used with Vault Standard, Vault Plus and Vault DR. If you would rather have no hardware at your site, see Vault Cloud.

Planned capacity classes

Eight classes in four series, from a small office to a county data center. Capacity is usable protected space. You do not have to pick one: we size it from your assessment.

Planned configurations. Capacity classes are usable protected capacity; final specifications are confirmed by your assessment and our validation of each build.

Micro series

2–4 TB usable · Small offices and authorities

Micro series · illustration of planned design

Single data drive. Your Atlanta and Tampa copies are the redundancy.

VE-2000

2 TB usable

Mini appliance · planned

A small office or authority with one or two servers.

VE-4000

4 TB usable

Mini appliance · planned

A small office with a few servers and file shares.

Compact series

6–8 TB usable · Town halls and small departments

Compact series · illustration of planned design

Single data drive with a separate system drive. Atlanta and Tampa copies are the redundancy.

VE-6000

6 TB usable

Small-form-factor appliance · planned

A town hall or department with several servers.

VE-8000

8 TB usable

Small-form-factor appliance · planned

A small city or authority with a growing data set.

Array series

16–24 TB usable · Cities, school districts and county departments

Array series · illustration of planned design

Four drives with double protection: the appliance keeps working through two drive failures.

VE-16000

16 TB usable

Multi-bay tower · planned

A city or county department with Hyper-V hosts and SQL Server.

VE-24000

24 TB usable

Multi-bay tower · planned

A mid-size city, school district or authority.

Enterprise series

48–96 TB usable · Counties and regional agencies

Enterprise series · illustration of planned design

Rack server with drive redundancy that survives two drive failures, and remote management.

VE-48000

48 TB usable

Multi-bay rack server · planned

A county or regional agency with large file or GIS data.

VE-96000

96 TB usable

Multi-bay rack server · planned

A large county or regional data center. Larger needs use several appliances.

Larger than 96 TB? We design a multi-appliance installation after an engineering review.

Planned specifications

Design targets for each class, for planning and procurement files. Each build is validated before it reaches a customer, and your quote confirms the final specification.

Which size do you need?

A quick estimate. Tell us roughly what you protect and how long you keep backups.

Used space on the servers you back up, not total disk size.

We plan three years ahead.

Estimated size

VE-16000

16 TB usable · Array series

About 12.2 TB of local backup space, including retention, three years of growth and headroom.

A planning estimate only. The readiness assessment measures your data, change rate and retention, and confirms the size in writing.

Buy it, or have it as a service

Four ways to pay for the appliance. In every one, MPM installs, configures and runs it as part of your Vault service.

Capital

You buy it

MPM provides the specification. Your agency buys through its own procurement or a cooperative contract; MPM installs and runs it.

Capital

MPM procures it for you

MPM orders it as your agent and delivers it installed and configured. Title and warranty registration pass to your agency.

Operating

Hardware as a service

MPM owns, maintains and refreshes the appliance as part of your annual Vault fee. No upfront hardware cost.

Paid over time

Lease-purchase

A third-party lessor finances the appliance over several years, subject to annual appropriation. Your agency owns it at the end.

Your finance office and auditors decide how each option is classified; MPM provides contract terms that support the treatment you choose.

Questions about Vault Edge

Is Vault Edge sold separately?
No. Vault Edge is specified as part of an MPM Vault service: Vault Standard, Vault Plus or Vault DR.
Do I need Vault Edge?
Not always. Vault Cloud backs your servers up straight to our data centers with no hardware at your site. Vault Edge adds a fast local copy, which is what makes the 4-hour and 2-hour recovery targets of Vault Standard, Plus and DR possible.
Can I use backup hardware I already own?
Often, yes. The assessment checks whether your existing hardware can do the job. Vault Edge is for agencies that need new hardware or want MPM to provide it.
What sizes are available?
Planned capacity classes are 2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 24, 48 and 96 TB of usable protected capacity. Larger environments use several appliances.
Do I have to choose a model?
No. MPM sizes the appliance from your servers, data volume, retention and recovery needs during the assessment.
Can it support disaster recovery?
Yes, as part of Vault DR: your local copy covers everyday restores, and the MPM Recovery Pod in Atlanta runs your servers if your site is lost.

Find out what size you need.

Tell us roughly how much data you protect, how many servers you run, and how long you keep backups. Start with the free self-assessment; the assessment then measures what you protect, and a Protection Proposal (only if you ask) recommends a Vault product and a Vault Edge size.
